As a Cape Henlopen School District employee, you are automatically enrolled in the State of Delaware Pension Plan. Employees hired prior to January 1, 2012, contribute 3% of their earnings to the pension plan after the first $6,000 in earnings each year. Employees hired on or after January 1, 2012, contribute 5% of their salary after the first $6,000 in earnings each calendar year.

There are four different health plans to choose from through Highmark and Aetna offering a variety of options to meet your needs. Although you are eligible for benefits immediately, eligibility for State Share of the premiums varies depending upon whether you are full-time or part-time and is subject to a waiting period. If you are planning to include a spouse in your health insurance enrollment, you will need to provide a copy of your marriage certificate, and spouse’s social security card and you will also need to complete the online spousal coordination of benefits form through the State of Delaware employee self-service as instructed. If you are covering children on your health plan, you will need to provide copies of their birth certificates and social security cards for your benefits file. Adult dependents can be covered up until age 26 based on the Dependent Coordination of Benefits Policy.
You will be able to enroll in one of the dental plans offered to state employees. Currently, there are two plans to choose from, a PPO through Delta Dental and an HMO through Dominion. You may be eligible for a monthly credit provided by the District for the employee's monthly share. You will be able to enroll in a vision plan offered to state employees. There is a high and low plan with different coverage options available for you to select.
A District life insurance policy issued by the Standard Insurance Company may be available to you at no cost. Eligible employees must complete the Standard Insurance Company Benefit Designation/Change Form. Employee-paid life insurance is offered through the state by Securian. If this is a benefit that you are interested in taking advantage of, you will need to call Securian Life directly to sign-up. You will receive a packet of information in the mail directly from Securian Life.
As a state of Delaware employee, you may be eligible for a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to help pay for out-of-pocket medical costs throughout the year such as co-pays, prescription costs, and qualifying over-the-counter medications. Employees who are eligible must enroll during the Open Enrollment Process. The state of Delaware provides a short-term and long-term disability plan through the Hartford. Enrollment is automatic and begins on your date of hire.
