Date of Referendum: May 21, 2024

  • On May 21, 2024, Cape Henlopen School District will hold a debt service and operating expense referendum to propose a new tax rate as a way to generate local revenue. The revenue generated from the approved tax increase will help the District address expenditures due to the increasing enrollment. Enrollment issues continue to be the main reason more funds are needed. Cape Henlopen School District enrollment has grown from 4,150 students in 2001 to 6,645 students as spring 2024, and population studies show that the enrollment will continue to increase significantly over the next 10 years.

The polls for the referendum will open at 7:00 a.m. and will remain open until 8:00 p.m.  District residents who are U.S. Citizens at least 18 years of age are eligible to vote at the following polling places: Cape Henlopen High School, Mariner Middle School, Beacon Middle School, Rehoboth Elementary School, and Lewes Public Library. As long as you are eligible to vote, you may do so at any of the locations.

If you would like to schedule a referendum presentation for your group or organization or would like additional information, please contact Public Relations Coordinator, Stephanie DeMalto at communications@cape.k12.de.us.
