Event Safety Process & Protocol

EVOLV Weapons Detection

Our District’s Safety Committee is consistently reviewing and identifying ways in which we can maintain a safe environment in our buildings, and during our special events. At the start of the 2024-25 school year, the District launched the use of a new weapons detection system, EVOLV at Legends Stadium, and will continue with its use this year.

The purpose of the EVOLV system is to help identify any potential weapons threat entering the stadium. As a valued spectator of our sporting events, here is what you can expect when the EVOLV system is being utilized:

  • Two lines of spectators will pass through the system.
  • If an alert is identified, a School Administrator will stop the line impacted, while a review of the images takes place.
  • The spectator will be asked to step aside and to remove the alerted item.
  • If the alert is found to be benign, the item will be tagged, and the spectator will continue with entry.
  • If the alert is not identified and the person refuses to identify the possible threat, a search will be required.
    • If the search is refused, the spectator will be asked to leave the premises.
  • If the alert is identified and found to be a threat, the SRO (Delaware State Police) will take the appropriate next steps.
  • In cases of a health or safety concern (for example, an implanted device or pregnancy), an alternative screening approach may be performed using a handheld wand.
  • Once the alert is identified and tagged, the line will resume.

The safety of our students, staff, and community members during attendance of our events is of the utmost importance to us, so please be patient as you may see longer wait times in line than expected.
