Unified Basketball Game & Leaders Reception Celebrates Inclusion, Teamwork, and Community at Cape Henlopen High School

On Thursday, February 5, Cape Henlopen School District Superintendent, Dr. Jenny Nauman hosted a Unified for Students: A Community Leaders Reception following the Unified Basketball game against Woodbridge at Cape High. The event brought students, staff, families, and community leaders together to celebrate inclusion, teamwork, and student leadership.

The event highlighted the power of Unified Sports at Cape, a program that brings students of all abilities together to compete as teammates and demonstrate what is possible when schools and communities work side by side. The game showcased not only athletic skill, but also sportsmanship, belonging, and the strong relationships that define the Cape Henlopen School District. In addition, the Cape High School Unified Choir kicked off the game with the National Anthem, showing that inclusion is something happening throughout all the programs at Cape, and not just on the court or on the field.

“I truly believe that our unified programs reflect the very best of who we are as a district,” said Dr. Nauman. “It’s events like this that remind us of the power of inclusion and what is possible when we all work together to ensure every student feels a sense of belonging.”

Following the game, guests gathered for a reception with members of the Unified team, district leaders, and community partners. Hors d’oeuvres were prepared and served by Cape Henlopen High School Culinary Arts students, who proudly showcased their skills while contributing to the evening’s success.

The Unified Basketball Game served as a powerful reminder of the impact inclusive programs have on students and school culture. “We are grateful to everyone who joined us for this event and showed their support for our students,” continued Dr. Nauman. “The presence of our families, community leaders, and partners sends a clear message to our students that they are valued, supported, and celebrated.”
