The Sussex Consortium Honors Dolles as a Community Champion

The Sussex Consortium is honored to recognize Dolles as a Community Champion. The business was recognized by the Cape Henlopen School District Board of Education at their Thursday, January 23 meeting.

Several years ago, the Sussex Consortium and Dolles launched a partnership, and it quickly became one of our students sweetest vocational sites! “On our very first visit, Mr. Tom showed the staff and the students the magic that goes into making their famous salt water taff,” said Pam Graves, Vocational Coordinator for the Sussex Consortium. “Our students have been arriving early to their scheduled shifts to help Mr. Tom with the latest batch of taffy ever since!”

Students are responsible for filling the taffy boxes, weighing them accurately, and placing on the lids. While at the Rehoboth location, students also had the opportunity to learn how to dip pretzels, almonds, and cashews in chocolate, as well as how to package gummy candies. “When the production side of the business moved to a new location, Tom and Florika ensured we made the transition with them,” continued Graves. “The focus at the new site has been boxing the taffy which provides countless valuable lessons during the shifts. Students are learning to collaborate as a team and maintain a pace that keeps up with their coworkers. Tom and Florika are two of the most compassionate people you’ll ever meet. They are patient and kind, always taking into consideration how they can support our students and staff.”

The Sussex Consortium is incredibly grateful to have Dolle’s open their doors to their program. Their ongoing kindness and support over the years have made a significant impact on our students’ lives, and we are grateful for their generosity.
