The Sussex Consortium celebrated its 2026 Prom with an evening of connection, joy, and community at the Sweetbriar Building, creating a memorable experience for students across programs.

Students who attended the event were joined by high school student volunteers from the National Honor Society, who played an important role in supporting and engaging their peers throughout the evening. The prom included eight students from the Sweetbriar building highlighting the school’s commitment to providing inclusive opportunities for socialization and celebration.

The event was made possible through the generosity of an anonymous community donor who has funded an ongoing after-school program for D-setting students. Held once each marking period, the program focuses on building leisure skills, encouraging social interaction, and supporting the development of independent living skills in a familiar and supportive setting. The prom served as a meaningful extension of those experiences.

Sussex Consortium staff also volunteered their time to help organize and participate in the event, further demonstrating their dedication to enriching students’ educational journeys both inside and outside the classroom. “The prom is a wonderful example of how our staff go above and beyond to create opportunities for all students to feel included, celebrated, and connected,” said Principal Dr. Vivian Bush. “We are grateful to our community partner and staff for making this event possible, and most importantly, we are proud of our students for embracing the experience and supporting one another.”

The evening featured music, dancing, and shared moments that allowed students to foster relationships and confidence in a positive, welcoming environment.
