Sussex Consortium holds pre-K literacy night for young families

LV Consortium staff

The Cape Henlopen School District and the Sussex Consortium welcomed families with children ages 3 and 4 to a fun and engaging Pre-K Literacy Night on January 22. The event, held at the Sussex Consortium, helps promote early literacy skills through interactive activities, storytelling, and family-friendly learning experiences.

Designed to spark a love for reading in young learners, the Pre-K Literacy Night featured hands-on literacy stations, read-aloud sessions, and take-home resources to support early reading development. Families will have the opportunity to engage in games, explore sensory-based learning, and discover strategies for fostering strong literacy habits at home.

“We are thrilled to have offered this event again for families. The evening is a dedicated to celebrating literacy and empowering families with tools to support their child’s learning journey,” said Dr. Audrey Dempsey, Supervisor of Early Learning. “At Cape we believe that building a strong foundation in reading at an early age sets the stage for future academic success.”

The event was open to pre-k students and their families who reside in the Cape Henlopen School District. Attendees also received free books and literacy materials to continue the excitement of reading beyond the classroom.

A Math Literacy Night is tentatively scheduled for March 25, 2025. Families interested in attending should mark their calendars and keep an eye out for a registration link coming soon!
