Sussex Consortium Celebrates Spring with Schoolwide “Spring Fling” Event

Spring was in full bloom at the Sussex Consortium as students throughout the building participated in a joyful, hands-on “Spring Fling” celebration that highlighted collaboration, creativity, and learning.

One of the day’s highlights featured a special visit from Delmarva Party Animals, who brought along a variety of friendly farm animals including sheep, ducks, goats, rabbits and a horse. Students had the opportunity to pet, observe, and learn about the animals up close, building early science knowledge while practicing gentle and respectful interactions. The experience sparked curiosity and conversation, as students asked questions, shared observations, and strengthened both language and social skills.

The celebration extended beyond the animal visit, offering a variety of engaging stations for students of all ages. At the flower planting station, students decorated their own planters before planting flowers to take home, an activity that combined creativity with lessons in growth and responsibility. Additional stations included sidewalk chalk art, bubbles, and coloring activities, providing opportunities for self-expression and cooperative play.

Little Vikings students also had the opportunity to participate in field day games where they were joined by their families and Special Olympics Delaware. Students rotated through several stations of yard games such as parachute play, foam paddle ball, frisbee throw and scoop ball. Each student received a medal from representatives of the Delaware State Police and Special Olympics Delaware at the end of their field day activities.

A sweet treat rounded out the festivities, with ice cream served by the Hopkins Dairy Farm truck, adding an extra layer of excitement to an already memorable day.

The “Spring Fling” showcased the unique strength of the Sussex Consortium community, bringing together students for shared experiences that foster connection, learning, and joy.
