Surfboard Designer Ian Roth Inspires Creativity and Entrepreneurship in Sixth Grade Art Classes

Ian Roth Visits FTMS 6th grade art students

Sixth grade students in Mrs. Nichole Shupard’s art classes at Frederick D. Thomas Middle School recently had a unique, hands-on learning experience as they welcomed a special guest to their classroom. Ian Roth, surfboard designer and owner of IMR Concepts, visited students to share his expertise in designing and building custom surfboards.

During his visit, students gained an inside look at the creative and technical process behind surfboard design, as well as the day-to-day realities of running a small business. The sessions were highly interactive, with students asking thoughtful questions and engaging in meaningful discussions about craftsmanship and entrepreneurship.

Adding to the experience, students had the opportunity to examine real surfboards and professional tools up close, bringing the lesson to life in a tangible way. The visit provided a valuable connection between art, design, and real-world applications, leaving students inspired by the possibilities of turning creativity into a career!
