Rehoboth High School History Room Receives Meaningful Alumni Donation

The Rehoboth High School History Room at Rehoboth Elementary School recently welcomed a special addition to its growing collection of memorabilia with the donation of 1955 alumnus Robert Phillips' navy blue Rehoboth High School letter sweater.

The sweater was donated by Robert’s son, Greg Phillips, and will become part of a collection that preserves the rich history and traditions of Rehoboth High School for current students, alumni, and community members.

Located inside Rehoboth Elementary School, the History Room serves as a tribute to the generations of students who attended Rehoboth High School prior to the school district’s consolidation in 1969. Visitors can explore an extensive collection of artifacts, including a vintage band uniform on loan from the Rehoboth Beach Museum, championship basketball memorabilia, yearbooks, class rings, photographs, original building blueprints, musical programs, a trumpet, and many other pieces that tell the story of the school's proud legacy.

"We are always touched when alumni and their families choose to share a piece of their history with us," said Rehoboth High School alumni and History Room managers Jackie Shockley and Gail Nowakowski Popovich. "Every donation helps preserve the memories, traditions, and spirit of Rehoboth High School.” Gail added, “Robert Phillips' letter sweater represents not only his accomplishments as a student but also the pride that generations of graduates continue to feel for their school. We are grateful to his son Greg for ensuring that this piece of Rehoboth history can be appreciated for years to come."

As the new principal of Rehoboth Elementary School, Matthew Keen shared his appreciation for the donation and the opportunity to help preserve the school’s history. “Stepping into a new role, it has been inspiring to learn about the traditions and stories that have shaped Rehoboth Elementary,” Keen said. “The History Room is a wonderful reminder of the deep roots our school has within the community, and we are grateful that for the opportunity to help preserve these memories and provide our students and staff with a meaningful connection to the generations of learners who came before them.”

“I am honored to donate my father’s letter sweater and know that it will have a special place among the many memories preserved in the Rehoboth High School History Room,” said Greg Phillips. “My dad was proud of his time at Rehoboth High School, and I hope this sweater serves as a reminder of the friendships, achievements, and traditions that made the school such a special place for generations of students. It means a great deal to our family knowing that his story will continue to be shared with future students, alumni, and the entire community.”
