Rehoboth Elementary Mentor, Rob Scisco, Named Creative Mentoring Mentor of the Month

Deanna Watson, Manager, Mentoring Programs Connecting Generations, Officer Robert Scisco, May Mentor of the Month for Creative Mentoring, Rehoboth Elementary third grader, Yanziel Rodriguez (mentee) and Dr. Doris Person, principal at Rehoboth Elementary.

The Cape Henlopen School District and Rehoboth Elementary School are excited to share that Rehoboth Police Department Officer Robert Scisco, was selected by Creative Mentoring as the May Mentor of the Month.

Officer Scisco is currently a mentor to third-grader, Yanziel Rodriguez, at Rehoboth Elementary where he is also the School Resource Officer. Once a week, for the last three years, Officer Scisco has met with his Yanziel, taking the time to talk, play games, and just spend time together. One of their favorite games to play is checkers. “Before every move, I try to remind him to stop, take a moment, and think first,” said Scisco. “It’s good advice for the game, but also good advice for life in general.” Yanziel describes his mentor is “awesome,” and says he really enjoys being a part of the mentoring program.

In recognition for his dedication and time to creating such a positive relationship, Officer Scisco was named Delaware Mentor of the Month by Creative Mentoring, the non-profit organization the Cape Henlopen School District partners with to oversee its mentoring program. “We are incredibly proud to have Officer Scisco recognized as a Creative Mentoring Mentor of the Month,” said Kim Hoey Stevenson, District Mentor Coordinator. “As both a school resource officer and a mentor, he’s building trust in a way that’s real and lasting. His ability to connect through play and presence helps his mentee feel seen, supported and safe.”

Currently, Cape has more than 200 mentors throughout the district but is always looking for more. Anyone interested in more information should contact Kim Hoey Stevenson at mentoring@cape.k12.de.us.
