Rehoboth Elementary Hosts One of Its Most Successful Holiday Food Drives to Date

Rehoboth Elementary School continued its long-standing tradition of giving back this holiday season by hosting its annual holiday food drive, which has become a meaningful event for students, families, and staff. This year’s drive proved to be one of the most successful in the school’s history.

Over the course of the collection period, the Rehoboth Elementary community donated a total of 3,268 pounds of non-perishable food, benefiting the Sussex County Council Food Drive as part of Georgetown’s annual Caroling on the Circle event.

“Last year as a school, we collected 2,676.8 pounds of non-perishable food during the initial drive. This year, we collected almost 600 pounds more” said Scott Pierce, Rehoboth Elementary teacher. “The final total was 3,268 pounds, which is incredible.”

Students in Mr. Pierce’s class played a key role in organizing and promoting the food drive helping raise awareness across the school. Contributions poured in from students’ families and staff members, highlighting the strong sense of community and generosity at Rehoboth Elementary.

As part of the drive, classrooms competed in a friendly challenge to collect the most food by weight. “Each year we recognize the classroom that brings in the most weight,” Pierce explained. “This year, the class that ultimately collected the most food was Mr. William Esquival’s third-grade class, which donated an impressive 414 pounds of non-perishable items.”

Donations to the Sussex County Council Food Drive may continue to be dropped off at the County Administrative Offices through the end of December. Rehoboth Elementary is proud to support this community effort and grateful for the generosity shown by its students, families, and staff.
