Rehoboth Elementary Celebrates Arbor Day with City of Rehoboth
On Thursday, April 17 students and the greater Rehoboth community gathered for the city’s annual Arbor Day celebration. This school-wide event is an annual event dedicated to honoring the importance of trees and environmental stewardship.
Students, staff, families, and community members assembled on the school grounds as Dr. Doris Person opened the celebration with guests by emphasizing the importance of protecting the environment for future generations. “This event has become a long-standing tradition with Rehoboth Elementary and the City of Rehoboth,” said Dr. Person. “It’s an opportunity for our students to learn that their small actions can make a big difference not just for their community but for the entire planet.”
The celebration featured an Arbor Day Proclamation read by the Mayor of Rehoboth, Stan Mills, the recognition of the annual poster contest winners by the Rehoboth Art League, a ceremonial tree planting, and a variety of nature-inspired activities designed to educate and inspire young minds. Delaware Forest Service Education Specialist, Ashley Melvin, also was in attendance to share her knowledge and answer students’ questions about trees and conservation.
The highlight of the ceremony was each grade level having the opportunity to plant tree saplings near the outdoor classroom. The planting of the tree is meant to symbolize growth, renewal, and the school’s commitment to sustainability. “Arbor Day is the perfect opportunity to come together as a community and plant the seeds of environmental responsibility,” said Tina Windsor, fifth grade teacher and Rehoboth Elementary Arbor Day Coordinator. “We are grateful to the City of Rehoboth for their continued support in helping to make this day special for all of our students and the entire community.”
