Milton Elementary Classrooms Honors Service Members

Ryan Mortimer, with son Landon Mortimer’s visited Mrs. Leslie Mitchell’s classroom on Friday, November 14th

Students and staff throughout Milton Elementary honored the bravery, sacrifice, and service of the nation’s veterans through a variety of meaningful Veterans Day celebrations held throughout the building. Rather than hosting a single assembly, individual classrooms created their own unique tribute, allowing students to engage with the day’s significance in age-appropriate and personalized ways.

Students read about military service and created posters as part of the Delaware Elks Lodge poster contest. Some classes invited veteran family members to share their experiences, giving students the opportunity to ask questions and learn directly from those who have served.

Teachers emphasized gratitude and appreciation throughout the week, helping students understand the courage and commitment it takes to serve. These classroom celebrations not only honored veterans but also encouraged students to reflect on the values of citizenship, service, and community.

The variety of activities allowed every student to participate meaningfully, ensuring that the spirit of Veterans Day resonated throughout the building. As a result, the school proudly demonstrated that honoring veterans can be both personal and powerful, especially when shaped by the creativity and appreciation of its students.
