Love Creek Students Bring Fall Fun to The Lodge

Love Creek Elementary School recently partnered with The Lodge at Historic Lewes for a heartwarming fall celebration that brought smiles, laughter, and meaningful connections across generations.

At Cape, schools are encouraged to extend learning beyond the classroom walls, and to strengthen community partnerships. With that in mind, students and staff at Love Creek visited residents of The Lodge for a day of seasonal crafts, bingo, reading activities, music, fall treats, volleyball, and shared stories.

Students and residents worked side-by-side, sparking conversations and forming bonds rooted in joy, respect, and compassion. Students read aloud, listened to residents' stories, and teamed up for friendly volleyball games, filling the space with energy, curiosity, and genuine connection.

“These intergenerational moments are powerful,” said Love Creek Principal, Equetta Jones. “Our scholars aren’t just learning about excellence, they are living it through service, compassion, and community partnership. The Lodge is now part of the Love Creek family, and we are grateful for the bonds being built.”

Assistant Principal Dr. Jim McDowell, reflected on his visit with the students, “Seeing our scholars and the residents connect so naturally was truly moving. The joy on their faces was unmistakable. Laughter, pride, and warmth filled the room. Experiences like this remind us that learning goes beyond academics; it grows through relationships, empathy, and heart. This experience created lasting memories and nurtured qualities our students will carry throughout life.”

This partnership will continue throughout the school year with additional visits and seasonal events planned to continue to build upon relationships and connections made this month.

For students, the day reinforced that excellence means showing kindness, empathy, and honoring others. For residents, it provided companionship, laughter, and the joy of sharing wisdom with the next generation.

What may have just began as a fall activity has now grown into a more meaningful connection.
