Love Creek Elementary School is proud to recognize two remarkable members of its school community, Mrs. Shirley Osborne, Cafeteria Manager, and Ms. Sydney Babbitt, Substitute Teacher, as recipients of this month’s Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Award. Both Mrs. Osborne and Ms. Babbitt were recognized at the November 13, Board of Education Regular Meeting.

The GEM Award honors individuals who go above and beyond in their dedication to students, staff, and the school community. Both honorees embody the spirit of service, care, and excellence that make Love Creek such a special place to learn and grow.

Mrs. Shirley Osborne has transformed Love Creek’s cafeteria into a welcoming, positive, and uplifting space where every student feels valued. Under her leadership, what was once a routine stop in the school day has become a place filled with warmth and respect. Shirley takes pride in ensuring that every student enjoys nutritious meals and has a voice in the dining experience. Known for her hands-on approach, Shirley leads by example, prepping, serving, greeting students, and working side-by-side with her team. Her leadership style fosters a culture of teamwork, positivity, and mutual respect. Beyond her daily responsibilities, she regularly volunteers to support school events and activities, often staying late or returning after hours to lend a hand.

“Shirley is one of the true superheroes of our school community,” said Love Creek Principal, Equetta Jones. “Her leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to our scholars and staff make Love Creek shine brighter every day.”

Ms. Sydney Babbitt, also recognized with the GEM Award, has made a tremendous impact as one of Love Creek’s most dependable and compassionate substitute teachers. Sydney is known for her calm presence, adaptability, and deep care for students. Whether covering a long-term absence or stepping in at a moment’s notice, she brings structure, empathy, and positivity to every classroom she enters. Sydney’s quiet confidence and steady professionalism help create a safe, inclusive learning environment where all students feel supported. Her willingness to step in wherever needed, and to do so with warmth and grace, has made her an invaluable part of the Love Creek team.

“Sydney embodies what it means to go the extra mile,” Principal Jones shared. “Her reliability, kindness, and commitment to students strengthen our school community every single day.”

Love Creek Elementary congratulates Shirley Osborne and Sydney Babbitt on this well-deserved recognition. Their dedication and heart exemplify the true meaning of Going the Extra Mile, and their contributions continue to make a lasting difference in the lives of Love Creek’s students and staff.
