Love Creek Elementary School Hosts Multicultural Night

Deborah Garcia and Forest Allread

Love Creek Elementary School hosted its annual Multicultural Night earlier this spring. It was a vibrant and heartwarming event that brought together students, families, and staff for an evening of connection, celebration, and cultural exploration.

The evening served as a powerful reminder of the unique backgrounds, traditions, and stories that shape everyone in the Cape community. From the moment guests arrived, they were immersed in a living gallery of student- and family-created trifolds that shared personal heritage stories through photos, artifacts, and meaningful cultural details.

Guests experienced the beauty of traditional regalia, the joy of international dance, and the universal language of music, including a dynamic live performance by the band Hot Sauce. The event also featured family-led performances and engaging, hands-on cultural activities for all ages.

A highlight of the night was the diverse selection of food, showcasing authentic dishes that represented culinary traditions from around the world. The variety of flavors offered a delicious glimpse into the global roots of the school’s families and was purchased courtesy of a grant provided by the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation (CHEF).

“Multicultural Night was more than just a celebration—it was a meaningful experience that fostered inclusion, understanding, and respect,” said Julia Schmidt, MLL teacher at Love Creek Elementary. “By sharing our traditions and learning from one another, we continue to build a stronger, more connected school community where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.”

The success of this event underscores the school’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment where all cultures are celebrated and every student and family belongs.
