Local Artist Saz Ross Brings Collaborative Mural to Life at Love Creek Elementary

Finished Mural at Love Creek Elementary School

Students and staff at Love Creek Elementary School recently had the unique opportunity to help create a vibrant new mural, thanks to a special residency by local artist Saz Ross, made possible through a partnership with Freeman Arts Pavilion.

The mural, which reflects the school’s coastal location and natural surroundings, was designed to celebrate the beauty and character of the Love Creek community. Incorporating elements inspired by local waterways, wildlife, and the environment, the artwork serves as a colorful and meaningful addition to the school.

What made the project especially impactful was the hands-on involvement of the entire school community. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade, along with staff members, and parents, worked alongside Ross to help paint sections of the mural, making it a true collaborative effort.

Throughout the process, students not only contributed artistically but also gained insight into the creative process, learning how a large-scale mural comes together from concept to completion. The experience provided an opportunity to foster creativity, teamwork, and school pride. “This mural is a reflection of our school and our community,” Love Creek principal, Equetta Jones. “Having our scholars and staff play a role in creating it makes it even more special.”

The project was brought to Love Creek Elementary through the support of the Freeman Arts Pavilion, whose mission includes connecting artists with local schools and communities to provide enriching cultural experiences. Now complete, the mural stands as a lasting symbol of collaboration, creativity, and the shared spirit of the Love Creek Elementary community.
