Little Vikings Students Celebrate 100 Days of Learning

Little Vikings students in Mrs. Cate Chalabala’s class recently marked a major milestone in the school year, the 100th Day of School! Throughout the day, students enjoyed a celebration filled with creativity, laughter, and meaningful learning.

The classroom was transformed as students arrived dressed as if they were 100 years old, complete with gray hair, oversized glasses, suspenders, shawls, and even canes. The playful costumes added excitement to the day while reinforcing the significance of reaching 100 days of learning together.

Throughout the celebration, students participated in a variety of hands-on activities designed to strengthen foundational math and social skills. Counting to 100 was a central focus, with activities that promoted number recognition and one-to-one correspondence while building early math confidence. From lining up 100 small objects to participating in interactive counting stations, students explored numbers in ways that were both engaging and developmentally appropriate.

One highlight of the day was the creation of 100-piece projects. Students carefully assembled collections of 100 items such as stickers, beads, cereal pieces, or paper shapes, helping to strengthen fine motor skills while reinforcing the concept of quantity. These projects not only showcased creativity but also demonstrated a clear understanding of what 100 represents.

Group counting games encouraged collaboration, turn-taking, and active listening. Students worked together to reach 100, practicing patience and cheering one another on as they counted by ones and even by tens. The activities reflected the growth students have made not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well.

By the end of the day, it was clear that the celebration was about more than just a number. “We are 100 days smarter, 100 days kinder, and 100 days brighter,” the class proudly shared, a sentiment that perfectly captured the spirit of the milestone.
