Lewes Elementary Students Celebrate National Inclusion Week with Friendly Competitions

Mrs. McCarthy's third grade championship team

Students at Lewes Elementary School celebrated National Inclusion Week with a series of energetic and engaging activities organized by the school’s Related Arts team.

During the week, students in grades 2–5 participated in a dodgeball tournament, while kindergarten and first grade students competed in a container ball round-robin tournament. The events took place during each grade level’s related arts period and brought all homeroom classes together in the gym for some friendly competition.

Organized by Coach Ben Ashby, the school’s physical education teacher, the tournaments allowed students to compete against other homeroom classes while cheering on their classmates and celebrating teamwork and inclusion.

The gym was filled with excitement as students encouraged one another throughout the competitions. While the games were sometimes intense, the focus remained on participation, sportsmanship, and having fun together.

The events served as a meaningful way to recognize National Inclusion Week by bringing students together through physical activity and teamwork. By the end of the tournament, it was clear that the friendly competitions created lasting memories for students across all grade levels.

The Lewes Elementary Related Arts team has made the tournaments an annual tradition and is already looking forward to hosting the event again next year.
