Hertrich Cash for Class Awards Support Student-Focused Projects at Sussex Consortium Programs

Amanda Eggers is surprised with her $2,000 winnings by Bobby Bailey

Three educators with the Sussex Consortium were recently recognized as 2025 Hertrich Cash for Class winners, receiving grant funding to support innovative projects that enhance student learning environments and experiences.

Amanda Eggers of Sussex Consortium at Sweetbriar was awarded $2,000, which will be used to support the school’s outdoor courtyard project. The initiative will provide students with an engaging outdoor space that encourages learning, relaxation, and connection to nature. Ms. Eggers project was recognized as a community favorite, earning her extra money towards the project.

At H.O. Brittingham Elementary School, two Sussex Consortium educators were recognized. Jenny Stephens received $1,000 to support the creation of raised garden beds at the school. This project will offer students hands-on learning opportunities related to nutrition, responsibility, and environmental awareness. Alexis Gooch was also awarded $1,000, which will be used to create sensory bins for school buses, helping support students’ sensory needs and promote a calmer, more positive transportation experience.

“These awards directly impact our students in meaningful ways,” said Dr. Vivian Bush, principal of the Sussex Consortium. “From outdoor learning spaces to hands-on gardening and sensory supports, each project reflects our educators’ dedication to meeting students’ needs and creating enriching learning environments.”

The Hertrich Cash for Class program provides educators with funding to bring meaningful classroom and school-based projects to life, directly benefiting students and school communities. Each of the projects were submitted to the contest in October, for members of the community to review and cast their votes in support of.

“The Hertrich Cash for Class awards highlight the power of community partnerships,” continued Dr. Bush. “We are grateful for Hertrich’s continued support and proud of our educators for turning these opportunities into projects that will positively impact students every day!”

Cape congratulates Amanda Eggers, Jenny Stephens, and Alexis Gooch on this recognition and thanks the Hertrich Family of Automobile Dealerships for their continued support of education and innovative learning opportunities.
