Frederick D. Thomas Middle School Band Director Marches in 2026 Rose Parade®

Nick Greeson, FTMS Band Director

Cape Henlopen School District is excited to share that Frederick D. Thomas Middle School Band Director, Mr. Nicholas Greeson, recently had the opportunity to march in the 2026 Pasadena Rose Parade® as a member of the nationally recognized “Band Directors Marching Band.” The parade took place on January 1, 2026, in Pasadena, California.

Mr. Greeson is one of more than 300 band directors from across North America chosen to participate in this prestigious ensemble, assembled through the Saluting America’s Band Directors project. The group performed along the iconic 5.5-mile parade route while accompanying a vibrant, animated float that celebrated music education.

The parade entry highlighted the theme, “America’s band directors: We teach music. We teach life.” This message honors the extraordinary dedication of band directors and music educators who, throughout their careers, have collectively mentored and taught hundreds of thousands of students. “Teaching music isn’t just about helping my students learn how to play an instrument, or read music,” said Mr. Greeson. “It’s also about teaching teamwork and discipline, celebrating creativity, and helping my students learn life skills that extend far beyond the classroom.”

“This is an incredible honor not only for Mr. Greeson, but for our entire school community,” said the Frederick D. Thomas Middle School principal, Mrs. Elyse Baerga. “His selection reflects his passion for music education, his commitment to students, and the lasting impact he has on young learners both musically and personally. We are so proud to have had him represent our school and district on a national stage.”

The Band Directors Marching Band was led by Jon Waters, a nationally known music educator and innovative band director.

Cape Henlopen School District congratulates Mr. Greeson on this remarkable achievement and celebrates the important role music educators play in shaping students’ lives and futures!
