Cape High School Robotics Students Inspire Preschoolers During Underwater Robot Demonstration

Cape Henlopen High School robotics students recently visited Little Vikings students at the Sussex Consortium pool to test their underwater robots while also creating a unique learning opportunity for the preschool students.

Students from the robotics class invited PK4 classes to observe the demonstrations and learn more about the underwater engineering projects. The Sussex Consortium pool, intentionally designed to meet the needs of Sussex Consortium students, features a smaller-than-standard size and warmer water temperatures to provide a comfortable environment where students can build water safety skills and confidence.

During the visit, preschool students learned how the underwater robots were designed and operated, and several students had the opportunity to test drive the creations themselves.

The experience also highlighted the connection between current and former students, as several of the high school robotics students once attended the Little Vikings preschool program. Now in high school, they demonstrated leadership and communication skills by sharing their knowledge with the younger students.

The visit provided an engaging, hands-on learning experience designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and interest in STEM-related fields among the district’s youngest learners.
