Cape High & Lewes Elementary School Host Hispanic Heritage Celebrations

Maryorie Lux Ixcotoyac and Jaylen Calderon Martinez

The Cape Henlopen High School World Language Department hosted a vibrant and engaging Hispanic Heritage Celebration on Thursday, October 9, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. The event showcased the rich diversity and cultural traditions of Spanish-speaking countries through music, dance, art, and presentations. Students and staff performed traditional dances and songs that highlighted various Hispanic cultures, while colorful displays of student projects filled the room, featuring research on influential Hispanic figures, cultural traditions, and regional cuisine. Special guest and disc jockey, Kevin Andrade, energized the crowd with an inspiring speech that encouraged students to celebrate diversity. Families, students, and community members came together to enjoy authentic foods, view creative projects, and experience the pride and unity that defined the celebration. The event served not only as an educational opportunity but also as a joyful expression of community and cultural appreciation within Cape High and the Cape Henlopen School District.

Similarly, at Lewes Elementary School, students, staff, and families gathered for a joyful Hispanic Heritage Month assembly that celebrated culture, language, and community. The event featured a series of student performances, including lively dances, musical numbers, and poem reading inspired by Hispanic and Latin American literature. Students proudly showcased their hard work and creativity, for their classmates, families and teachers. Families were invited to attend and share in the celebration, filling the gymnasium with applause and smiles as they watched their children perform. The assembly fostered a sense of belonging and appreciation for diversity, while highlighting the many ways literature and the arts can connect students to cultures around the world.
