Cape Henlopen School District Superintendent Announces Retirement

Bob Fulton

At the conclusion of the Thursday, April 10 Regular Board of Education Meeting held at Rehoboth Elementary School, District Superintendent, Mr. Robert Fulton, announced his retirement effective July 1, 2025. Mr. Fulton has worked in education for 34 years, with the last 13 as the Superintendent of the Cape Henlopen School District.

“It is with a mixture of emotions that I have made the decision to retire as Superintendent of the Cape Henlopen School District,” said Fulton. “While my retirement marks the end of my time as Superintendent, I remain confident in the strength of our district and the exceptional educators, staff, and administrators who make it so special.  The success and growth we’ve seen, especially in recent years, is a testament to the dedication, passion, and commitment each of our staff members has for our students, their families, and each other. I leave knowing that the future of Cape is bright.”

While the decision to retire was not made lightly, Mr. Fulton is looking forward to spending more time with his family and pursuing new adventures.

“It is a bittersweet time for the Cape Henlopen Board of Education as we acknowledge the retirement of our superintendent, Mr. Robert Fulton,” said Dr. Alison Myers, Board of Education President. “Mr. Fulton has served the Cape District as a teacher, and administrator for twenty-one years, and finally as superintendent for thirteen years with strong leadership, the desire to continuously improve, and a passion for student success. During Mr. Fulton’s tenure, our district has accomplished numerous, successful capital projects, implementation of unique academic programming for gifted students and immersion programming in all our schools,” continued Myers. “We weathered the COVID-19 pandemic and came out the other side with the highest academic testing scores in the state. Under Mr. Fulton’s leadership the District has made significant strides in advancing academic excellence, enhancing community partnerships, and ensuring that every student has the tools and opportunities they need to thrive. We wish Superintendent Fulton a well-deserved retirement filled with relaxation, joy, and new adventures. His dedication and leadership will never be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to inspire the District for years to come,” Myers concluded.

The Board of Education will begin the process of finding a new superintendent, with a focus on continuing the District's legacy of excellence, equity and responsiveness, while ensuring a smooth transition.

Further details will be shared with the District staff, families and the community at large next week.
