Lisa Morris, Assistant Supervisor of Human Resources in the Cape Henlopen School District, was recently named the recipient of a Doctoral Scholarship from The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. The International Society for Key Women Educators promotes professional and personal growth of women educators as well as excellence in education. By providing graduate scholarships to members, the organization emphasizes leadership development for its more than 50,000 members in 17 countries. Ms. Morris is a member of the Society’s, Delaware Beta Chapter, and is attending Wilmington University where she is seeking a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership.
Following the committees most recent meeting, Karen Evans, International Scholarship Committee Chairperson, announced the scholarship recipients. “We granted eight Doctoral Scholarships of $10,000 each for the 2025-2026 academic year,” Evans said.
Recipients must have earned a master’s degree, be enrolled in a recognized doctorate program and have been a Society member for at least three years to be considered for the scholarship. Since the scholarship programs conception in 1940, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International has given 1,206 women educators more than $5,800,000 in scholarships. In addition to international scholarships, many state organizations and local chapters also have scholarship funds to assist members pursuing graduate study.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was formed in Austin, Texas, on May 11, 1929. Lead by Dr. Annie Webb Blanton, the 12 founders represented all levels of education including kindergarten through university teachers. Each from various parts of Texas. A professor of rural education at the University of Texas, Dr. Blanton was elected president of the Texas State Teachers' Association in 1916 and was the first woman to hold the office. Blanton was also the first woman to serve Texas as State Superintendent of Public Instruction, having been elected to that post in 1918.
“It’s an honor to be a recipient of this highly esteemed scholarship,” said Ms. Lisa Morris. “While the scholarship certainly has a positive impact financially, but it also reinforces my commitment to achieving my academic and career goals. I am deeply grateful for the support from The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and look forward to making a meaningful impact in my field.”
