Beacon Middle School's More Life Gentlemen's Club and Lewes Elementary Cape Gents Unite for Morning of Mentorship and Fishing

Students from Beacon Middle School's More Life Gentlemen's Club and Lewes Elementary School's Cape Gents came together for a memorable morning of mentorship, camaraderie, and fishing at Blockhouse Pond.

The annual event provided students from both schools with the opportunity to build relationships, enjoy the outdoors, and learn from one another in a relaxed setting centered on teamwork, conversation, and shared experiences. Older students from the More Life Gentlemen's Club served as positive role models for the younger Cape Gents, encouraging them while spending quality time together on the water.

The gathering highlighted the importance of mentorship and connection, giving students the chance to strengthen friendships across grade levels while developing confidence, leadership, and communication skills. "Events like this demonstrate the power of positive relationships," said Beacon Middle School Principal, Dr. Kathleen Sheehan. "Watching our middle school students encourage and mentor younger students while enjoying a morning outdoors was a wonderful example of leadership in action. These experiences help build character and create lasting connections."

The More Life Gentlemen's Club and Cape Gents programs are designed to foster leadership, responsibility, respect, and personal growth while providing students with opportunities to connect with both mentors and peers. By bringing the two groups together, students experienced firsthand the value of supporting one another and building a strong sense of community.

"This was more than a fishing trip," said Lewes Elementary Principal, Mr. Alfredo Rodriguez. "It was an opportunity for our students to learn from one another, build confidence, and see what positive leadership looks like. The conversations, encouragement, and friendships formed throughout the morning made this a truly meaningful experience."

The Cape Henlopen School District extends its appreciation to Beacon teacher Mr. Charles Mumford, Lewes Chief Custodian, Andrew Long, Lewes Elementary Behavior Manager Myles Hazzard, and Constable Mark Nicholas, who helped organize the event and create a positive experience for all participants.
