Beacon Middle School Senior Secretary Named Educational Office Professional of the Year

On Thursday, May 15, at the Delaware Association of Educational Office Professionals (DAEOP) spring dinner and awards ceremony, Ms. Katina Norwood, Beacon Middle School Senior Secretary, was recognized as the 2025 Educational Office Professional of the Year!

This award recognizes outstanding performance, dedication, and contributions to the success of a school’s educational mission through exemplary office support. Ms. Norwood was selected from a group of highly qualified candidates across the region for her professionalism, commitment to students and staff, and ability to foster a welcoming and organized school environment.

“Katina is the anchor of our front office and school operations,” said Dr. Kathleen Sheehan, Principal of Beacon Middle School. “Her attention to detail, calm presence, and unwavering support make her an invaluable part of our team. This recognition is so well deserved.”

Norwood has served in the role of senior secretary for 5 years providing essential support in daily operations, student services, and communication between staff, parents, and the community. Colleagues describe her as “the glue that holds the school together” and someone who always goes the extra mile. Prior to working at Beacon, Norwood was a Senior Secretary at the District Office and has been with the Cape District since 2008, when she started at Cape Henlopen High School. 

Norwood expressed gratitude to her colleagues and the school community: “I’m incredibly honored and humbled by this recognition. Working at Beacon is a joy, and I’m thankful every day to be part of such a dedicated and caring team.”
