Beacon Middle School “More Life” Club Hosts Fishing Outing and Presentation for Elementary Students
On May 20, Beacon Middle School “More Life” Young Men’s group hosted a morning of fishing and grilling with the Lewes Elementary “Gents” Club students before heading over to Love Creek Elementary where they gave a presentation to some of their students on the importance of making good choices.
The day began at Blockhouse Pond in Lewes, where a Beacon Middle schooler teamed up with a Lewes Elementary student for some catch and release fishing. “It was a privilege watching our young gentleman cast their lines alongside some of the middle schoolers who they may see next year at Beacon,” said Eddie Reese Jr., Chief Custodian at Lewes Elementary and a club advisor. “It was a great opportunity for mentorship, patience and real connection among the kids.”
Students also enjoyed burgers and hot dogs together before the Lewes Elementary kids heading back to class and the Beacon Middle Schoolers headed to Love Creek to share the importance behind making good choices, with some of their students. After the presentations, one middle schooler and one elementary student partnered together to interview each other. “It was great to see our middle school gentleman engaging in meaningful conversations with our elementary school gentleman,” said Charles Mumford, Beacon teacher and More Life Club advisor. “It’s moments like this that show that when we create space for young men to connect and grow, they rise to the occasion with maturity, respect, and a genuine desire to make good choices.”
