Beacon Middle School Hosts Breakfast with Heroes

Beacon Middle School Hosts Breakfast with Heroes

On December 20, Beacon Middle School hosted its first Breakfast with Heroes event. Leading up to the breakfast, students were invited to identify someone in their life, who they identified as their hero. Both were then invited to participate in a delicious breakfast, catered by the Cape Henlopen High School culinary students.

The breakfast was a unique opportunity for the students and their heroes to enjoy each other’s company and meet others. Holiday music was provided by the Beacon Middle School band and choir, and attendees also received a special message from guest speaker, Robert West, who shared words of encouragement through his spoken poetry.

Assistant Principal, Dontez Collins spearheaded the event. “I wanted to do something that would help enhance our student culture, provide a sense of belonging, and also facilitate a connection with the community,” said Collins. “All students had the opportunity to participate with their hero, whomever that may be, and today we had parents, grandparents, teachers, tutors, and friends who joined us. I hope this can be something that we can continue to do throughout the year at Beacon!”

As the organizer of the event, Mr. Collins also invited his heroes to the breakfast which included one of his former teachers turned mentors, Mrs. Jinni Forcucci, and his mother, Ms. Mary Bailey. “I wanted our students to see that no matter where life takes you, it’s important to have a hero in your corner. What better way to do that, than to introduce them to my own heroes!”
