At Cape, technology is one of the many tools we use to help students learn, create, collaborate, and prepare for the future. Our goal is to use technology intentionally to support meaningful learning while partnering with families to promote safe, balanced digital habits.

Technology is more than knowing how to use a device. It’s knowing how to use devices safely, responsibly, and intentionally. That’s why every Cape student participates in age-appropriate Media Literacy lessons throughout their school experience.
Students learn how to:
- Stay safe online and protect their privacy
- Recognize trustworthy information and think critically about media
- Communicate respectfully in digital spaces
- Understand copyright and use digital content responsibly
- Use artificial intelligence ethically and effectively
- Build healthy digital habits and positive online relationships

We don't count every minute students spend on a device, but we make every minute count using technology when it strengthens learning.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Cape
AI is changing the way we learn, work, and solve problems. At Cape, we believe students should learn how to use AI responsibly, ethically, and thoughtfully. AI is one of many tools that can support learning, creativity, and future-ready skills, but it can never replace great teaching or student thinking.
Cape is committed to protecting students while preparing them for the future.
- Only district-approved AI tools are used with students.
- Student privacy is protected. Personally identifiable information is never entered into AI tools.
- Teachers clearly communication when AI may or may not be used for an assignment.
- Students learn how to use AI ethically, responsibly, and with academic integrity as they participate in AI focused lessons included in our Media Literacy instruction.
Supporting Your Child with AI Use
Families play an important role in helping students develop healthy AI habits. If your child is using AI, consider asking questions like:
- How did your teacher say AI could be used for this assignment?
- What ideas are your own?
- How did AI help you learn instead of doing the work for you?
Encourage your child to use AI as a learning tool, not a shortcut, and to always think critically about AI-generated responses as AI makes mistakes, too.

Family FAQ
Supporting Learning at Home
Families often ask “what should my child actually be doing with the iPad at home?” Here’s some great uses:
- Explore approved apps (Schoology, Seesaw, Dreambox, Sora, Duolingo, etc)
- Read a digital book (if you don’t have a library at home or need a book on a topic of interest)
- Create a presentation on a topic of choice
- Create something new using iMovie, Garageband, or another native iPad app
- Research a passion or interest
- Review class materials or complete digital assignments
Help your child build healthy technology habits by encouraging them to…
- Charge their device every night
- Put the device down and take movement breaks
- Keep devices in common spaces
- Talk about online behavior
- Balance online and offline activities.
