Cape District Launches Where's the Bus App
The Where's the Bus app is a mobile app that works as a tracker for our school buses. As the parent/guardian of a student, you can create an account, and when the app is open, you have a real-time view of where your child’s/children’s bus is on its route. This app is different than the Find My Bus site listed below. The Find My Bus website is not a tracker, it only provides information regarding pick-up/drop-off times and bus stop locations.
The Where’s The Bus App is currently only available for our regular bus routes. At this time, it does not include Sussex Consortium routes; however, we plan to have those routes integrated into the app in early 2023.
The system is also only able to register one parent/guardian per student. If you have multiple parent(s)/guardian(s) that will need access to a child’s or children’s bus route(s), please contact support@wheresthebus.com. They will be able to set up an additional parent/guardian account for the student.
Below is a step-by-step guide on how to create an account, how to add your child’s/children’s information, and how to download the app to your mobile device. The app can be installed from both Google Play for Android devices and the App Store for iPhone devices.
Please keep in mind that this is a new system and with all things new comes a period of learning and making updates as needed. While we have found that the majority of the bus routes work efficiently, there inevitably will be glitches. Please be patient with us as we work through any issues that arise.

How to Create an Account
Step 1: Create an account. Visit https://wheresthebus.com/ and click the “Create Account” button. You may also skip ahead to Step 8, download the app and create an account from the app instead of your web browser.
Step 2: Use the drop-down to select Cape Henlopen School District and click “Continue”.
Step 3: Click the “Add Student” button. Please note: You WILL be able to add multiple students to your app if you have children riding different buses.
Step 4: Enter your child’s Birthdate and Student ID number and click “Save”.
Step 5: Confirm that the student information displayed is accurate. You will see your child’s name, school, AM/PM bus numbers, and pick-up/drop-off times populated in the boxes. Follow the on-screen instructions if it’s not, and click “Continue” if it is. If you would like to add a student to your account, click the “Add Student” button to add their information to your account.
Step 6: Enter your information and click “Sign-Up”.
Step 7: Congratulations! Your account has now been created!
Downloading the App to Your Smart Phone
Step 1: Download the App - To download the App to your Mobile Device, go to your Google Play (android devices) or App Store (iPhone)
Step 2: Open the app and either log in with the credentials you created online, OR create your account if you haven’t done so already. Follow Steps 2-6 under "How to Create an Account" to create your account through the mobile app. *The following screenshots are taken from the iPhone app. Please note that the android appearance may be slightly different.
If signing into the account, click “Sign in to Approved Account” and select Cape Henlopen School District.
Once you sign in, the screen will open the map to show you your child’s bus and its estimated time of arrival. If you have multiple children with different buses that you registered your account with, you will be able to swipe between screens to see their individual bus routes.
