The Cape Henlopen School District (CHSD) borders the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay. From the Indian River Inlet, to just north of Milford, our District covers some of the most beautiful and historic landmarks in Delaware.
CHSD is home to five elementary schools that are located throughout Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, and Milton. Three beautiful middle schools feed into Cape Henlopen High School that is centrally located in Lewes on Kings Highway. Cape Henlopen High School was built in 2010 and in 2017 was named the most beautiful high school in the state by Architectural Digest Magazine. To date, our District enrollment is over 6,500 students. We are also home to the Sussex Consortium, a nationally renowned program for children with autism. The Sussex Consortium serves students from all over Sussex County, and its reputation as one of the best schools for autism in the state and in the country attracts parents and students to our District from near and far.
At CHSD we pride ourselves in serving a diverse community that is not only highly involved with the schools but supports and helps our District promote the success of all students. Since 2014, the community has helped and supported us by passing three capital project referendums to build three brand-new elementary schools (2014), to rebuild and renovate the existing two elementary schools (2016), and to build a third middle school and add a 400-student addition to Cape Henlopen High School (2018). The capital projects from the three referendums were completed by 2023. We are grateful for the unwavering support of the community and recognize that because of that support, we are able to provide state-of-the-art facilities for students, staff, and community members.
Not only does Cape Henlopen School District have a lot to offer, but the Cape region is also one of the most unique areas in our small state of Delaware. Sussex County is home to award-winning restaurants, scenic nature trails and state parks, tax-free shopping, and perhaps most importantly...the beach!
Whether you enjoy fun in the sun, attending yearly festivals, holiday parades, or cultural events, our small town truly has something for people of all ages. Not only that, but we're only a two-hour drive from Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
At Cape Henlopen School District we pride ourselves on providing the best opportunities, activities, programs, and technologies to both our students and our staff, including:
