Title IX in Athletics

At Cape Henlopen School District, all students have the right to learn, grow, and play in a safe and supportive environment where all discrimination, including gender discrimination, will not be tolerated. Title IX covers all forms of discrimination, including harassment, but is most commonly known for its impact in gender equality in sports.

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

Equity in Athletics

The Cape Henlopen School District began an audit of its high school athletics program beginning in the 2023-24 school year. The effort was championed by our Title IX Coordinator, District administrators, Cape High School athletics department and the high school administrative team.

The audit process identified areas for improvement, and the District began addressing disparities immediately.

The District is in the process of collecting athletic participation data and will post the information under action plans once available.
