Typical Peer Enrollment Information & Processes

  • Thank you for your interest in the Little Vikings Learning Center! Below you will find information and requirements to enter your child into the typical peer application lottery. Below you will also find the link to the application form which includes the information on this page on a reference sheet. 

    Any child (age 3-5) who resides in the Cape Henlopen School District meets the criteria, and does not have an identified special education need, may submit an application as a typical peer with the Little Vikings Learning Center. August 31st will be used as the cut-off date, which is the same used for kindergarten readiness. The student must be 3 or 4 years of age prior to September 1st for the academic school year.

    This application must be turned in to the Central Registration Office between December 1 and the second Wednesday in January prior to the school year in which the child is eligible. One form is to be completed for each child. 

    The following documentation is required:

    • Typical Peer Application Form
    • Proof of Residency Form*
      • Proof of Residency is required for the parent or grandparent that is a permanent, full-time Cape Henlopen School District employee residing in the Cape Henlopen School District. Please include a copy of a current utility bill that shows both the mailing address and the service address or a fully executed lease.
    • Copy of registering child's birth certificate
    • Copy of parent/guardian driver's license

    Applications will be entered into a lottery and will be considered in the following order per Board Policy #206 - Enrollment of Typical Peer Students - Little Vikings Learning Center:

    1. Siblings of a typical peer student enrolled or accepted for the upcoming school year in Little Vikings Preschool who are children of permanent, full-time Cape Henlopen School District employees who are residents of the Cape Henlopen School District. 
    2. Children of permanent, full-time Cape Henlopen School District employees who are residents of the Cape Henlopen School District.
    3. Siblings of a typical peer student enrolled or accepted for the upcoming school year in Little Vikings Preschool who are children of permanent, full-time Cape Henlopen School District employees who are not residents of the Cape Henlopen School District.
    4. Children of permanent, full-time Cape Henlopen School District employees who are not residents of the Cape Henlopen School District.
    5. Siblings of a typical per student enrolled or accepted for the upcoming school year in Little Vikings Preschool who are grandchildren of permanent, full-time Cape Henlopen School District employees who are residents of the Cape Henlopen School District. 
    6. Grandchildren, who are residents of the District, of permanent, full-time Cape Henlopen School District employees who are residents of the Cape Henlopen School District.
    7. Late applications for siblings of a typical peer student enrolled or accepted for the upcoming school year in Little Vikings Preschool who are children and grandchildren of permanent, full-time Cape Henlopen School District employees in the order defined in categories one through six. 
    8. Applications (including late applications) by anyone not qualified under categories one through seven.

    If there are more applicants than slots available by anyone category in either the 3 or 4-year-old program, a lottery will be established from the pool of applicants in that category for the available slots as they open. Siblings of students enrolled or accepted into the Little Vikings Preschool will be accepted before the lottery pool is formed. Siblings in a single lottery pool will be considered linked and as one entity.
