10th Grade CP Enhanced Economics

  • Course Requirements

    This course is designed to meet high school graduation requirements and prepare students for college-level social studies courses, as well as prepare students for a successful and productive financial future through student interaction in the economy.

    The focus of the course is on four major economic themes:  Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Economic Systems, and International Trade.  The course will also emphasize personal finance throughout these four themes.

    In this classroom, a student’s success will be attributed to the effort that is put forth. It is important to keep an open mind in order to grow as a student, as well as to be respectful to your peers, yourself, and your teacher.

    Course Goals:

    • Help students develop cooperative learning skills by participating in cooperative learning activities.
    • Help students to get involved in the learning process by participating actively in class.
    • Provide students with challenging and enjoyable learning experiences
    • Help students to use technology responsibly in an academic environment.
    • Develop an economic vocabulary.


    • Have a charged iPad & writing utensil EVERY DAY. These will not be provided by the teacher.
    • Folder & Spiral Notebook (Interactive Notebook/INB) size 8.5”x11”, 100 pages—NO EXCEPTIONS!
    • Recommended materials include gluestick, colored pencils & pens, & a highlighter.

    Grading Policies

    Grading Policy:

    Grades will be determined using a weighted system containing two main categories:

    1. Formative Assessments (40%)- a variety of assessment procedures (both formal & informal), conducted throughout the learning process to improve student attainment of information. This includes classwork, homework, reflections & sometimes quizzes.
    2. Summative Assessments (60%)- a type of assessment that is used to evaluate student learning, usually at the end of a unit. This includes tests/final assessments, essays, projects, & sometimes quizzes.

    ALL GRADES can be accessed through home access ONLY. (The grade in the student’s Schoology class page is always incomplete, as only some assignments are graded through this resource and therefore not accurate!)

    Rules and Procedures

    Classroom Expectations:

    1. Prompt- be on time & ready to learn when class begins.
    2. Prepared- have ALL necessary materials & know due dates for assignments.
    3. Positive Attitude- be a positive participant in class.
    4. Productive- always do your best, use time wisely, & turn in assignments on time.

    Technology Expectations:

    • iPad use will be directed by green, yellow, or red cards on the front board.
      • Green= OK to use, Yellow= may be on the desk, but must remain upside down, & Red= NO use/off the desk
    • You may use technology during instructional time ONLY to access class notes or classwork, sites or apps per teacher’s directions.
    • When in use, your iPad must remain on your desk at all times in a way that your screen is visible.
    • NO CELL PHONES OR HEADPHONES are to be used during school hours.
    • All students must follow the Cape Henlopen School District’s Technology/Internet Acceptable Use Policy at all times.

    Classroom Procedures:

    • Weekly Warm-Up -All classes will begin with a warm-up on the SmartBoard. At the end of the week, students are expected to have completed the warm-ups REGARDLESS OF ANY* ABSENCES (excused or unexcused) THAT WEEK. – *unless otherwise discussed.
    • Classwork- will mostly be completed in the Interactive Notebooks (INBs). INBs will be graded on a marking period basis, & students are expected to bring theirs to class EVERY DAY and follow the expectations for maintaining the notebook.
    • Homework- Any homework that is assigned will mostly be assigned for one of the following reasons;

    (1) review of materials that may require highlighting, questioning, or summarizing;

    (2) preparation for an upcoming assignment that will be given in class, such as reading; (3) a classwork assignment or project that was not completed in the allotted class time; or (4) studying of materials in preparation for a test or quiz.

    • Projects- Projects will be assigned throughout the marking period to deepen student understanding of the material as well as to assess student learning. These assignments will mostly be allotted class time for completion, however, students are expected to finish at home should class time not be sufficient. Projects will mostly be graded as a summative assessment.
    • Bathroom Policy- you may go to the bathroom at an appropriate time (when the teacher is not instructing the class) once per period. The student must sign out of the room using their iPad & the posted QR code, and take the class pass.  If a student is late to class, they may be denied a pass for the remainder of the period. Students who abuse this privilege (wandering the hall, hanging out with friends, etc) will be revoked until further notice.

    Absent Student Policy:

    It is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to get any work that they have missed due to absence.

    • Absent work can be retrieved and submitted (equal to the number of days missed) in Schoology as well as the classroom Student Center. Please use your peers as a resource if you have been absent, to understand what was done the day(s) you missed.
    • If a student has an excused absence, they will have the ability during the school day to make it up. If you know you are going to be absent on a test day, you must take the test before the absence.

    Late Work Policy (**unless otherwise stated):

    Late work is unacceptable, and the instructors maintain the right to deny grading late assignments. Late work that is submitted & graded will receive an automatic penalty to the student’s grade.
