Program Information

  • Advanced Via Individual Determination (AVID)

AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in the global society. AVID is offered to students in grades 6 – 12 to prepare them for continuing education after high school. AVID has a proven track record of bringing out the best in students and helping them to realize their goals.

    The AVID Student

AVID is intended for students in the “academic middle” who have a desire to go to college and the willingness to develop skills and strategies that are necessary for academic success. These students are capable of being successful but are not quite reaching their full potential. Often, AVID students will be the first in their families to attend college.

    AVID Schools

AVID is offered at Beacon Middle School, Mariner Middle School, and Cape Henlopen High School. We invite interested students and parents to learn more about AVID by contacting a school-based AVID coordinator, AVID elective teacher, or building administrator. Informational meetings are held each year and can be found on the District calendar.
