• The participants will learn how to:

    • Identify components of an effective learning environment
    • Identify and describe functional activities across domains
    • Incorporate effective visual reinforcement strategies for all learners
    • Define functional communication and identify the conditions under which it occurs
    • Use appropriate lesson formats across a variety of skills
    • Use effective teaching strategies and identify ways to eliminate prompts
    • Use effective error correction strategies to promote learning
    • Apply behavior analytic concepts, principles and procedures, including the instructional techniques involved in implementing PECS with target individuals and to teach the expressive communication skills critical to individuals using PECS
    • Create lesson plans incorporating all aspects of the Pyramid Approach
    • Define behavior operationally
    • Identify and teach alternative behaviors functionally equivalent to contextually inappropriate behavior
    • Create and use visual and written schedules across a variety of skill levels
    • Analyze common routines and program opportunities for communication within activities across the day
