Absentee Voting Information

  • The polls for the special election shall be open on March 20, 2018 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, in the following schools:  Cape Henlopen High School, Mariner Middle School, and Rehoboth Elementary School.

    Any individual qualified to vote in this election may vote by absentee ballot if the voter is unable to appear at a polling place on March 20, 2018, for any of the following reasons: 

    (1) Temporary or permanent physical disability, (2) Public service for the U.S. or the State of Delaware, (3) Spouse or dependent of, and residing with or accompanying, a person in public service of the U.S. or the State of Delaware, (4) Engaged in business or occupation precluding appearance at a polling place, (5) Sickness, (6) The tenets or teaching of the voter’s religion, (7) Incarceration, or (8) Absence from the district while on vacation. 

    All absentee ballots shall be processed by the Department of Elections as follows: 

    March 16, 2018, 12:00 noon – last day to mail absentee ballots to voter following receipt by the department of a properly completed affidavit;
    March 19,  2018, 12:00 noon – deadline for voters to submit affidavits requesting an absentee ballot in person;
    March 20, 2018, 8:00pm – deadline to return voted absentee ballot to the Department of Elections or to a polling location in the school district the day of the referendum.

    All citizens of the State of Delaware who reside in the Cape Henlopen School District and who are 18 years of age or older (by federal law) are eligible to vote.  It is not necessary that a prospective voter be registered to vote in a general election to vote in this election.
